Project Guideline Presentations must include the following: Signs and symptoms Causative Agent Pathogenesis and Virulence Factors Transmission and Epidemiology Culture and Diagnosis Prevention and Treatment -Presentations must be in powerpoint and narrated. Students must use Panopto. Tutorial for the video is in this module. -I require everyone to submit ten multiple choice questions. An answer key must be submitted to the instructor -Students can use a variety of sources for their presentation with the textbook being the main source of information. -All students must submit their Panopto link , and the 10 multiple choice questions (NO TRUE OR FALSE QUESTIONS!!)-Although I am looking for the main presentation points, I am also looking forward to effort- meaning that if you just did the bare minimum with obvious lack of effort, you will get lower grade than expected.) -Video link must be submitted. This will ensure that we can only access the video via the link that you give to class. You must use Panopto to do your recording of your presentation. -Professional attire (business casual or professional) is required for your video. Deviation from this needs approval from me as I need to know in what context that you are not wearing professional attire. -Ten Questions from videos (Multiple choice) must be submitted to the professor with the answers highlighted in yellow. -Limit the use of pre-made videos to 5 seconds and nothing more. Explanation should be done by the presenter and not a video clip. Tips a) Incorporate some visuals b) Do not make one slide very wordy- space them out if you need to How many slides? Answer: As many as you can as long as you answer the guidelines- must include visuals!- do not embed video lasting more than 5 secs- only text and pictures More Specific Guidelines about Powerpoint FOR YOUR POWERPOINT 1) First , Define what your disease is 2) Signs and symptoms- self explanatory 3) Causative Agent- identify the virus/bacteria responsible and some of its attributes 4) Pathogenesis and Virulence Factors- Important!!! Include the mechanism of infections, be very specific and not one word mechanisms. You can use visuals however, you must explain it separately from the picture. Also, be very specific about the virulence factor–what does this virulence factor do that makes it the component that makes the agent pathogenic….no one word answers..must explain. This section must be detailed and thorough 5) Transmission- includes mode of transmission;how is it passed from one to another? 6) Epidemiology= where ? how many people are affected? which regions are affected? statistics? what kind of people age group? any other factors? 6) Culture and Diagnosis- Be very specific on what tests are done. and how they are diagnosed 7) Treatment- Be very specific and answer specifically what drugs are used/regimen. Do not just say antibiotic. You must specify what it is. Also state the regimen…the duration of treatment? the agent of delivery? oral? injection? topical? 8) Prevention-Guidelines for preventing disease 9) Reference page Point #1- Images with words must be clearly magnified so we can read the text. Do not make your slides all pictures. It must have pictures, texts and explanations! Point #2- Do not make one slide very wordy..Stretch them out if you have to. You are not restricted by number of slides Point #3- Do not embed third party videos that last more than 5 seconds! Point #4 – Put your references at the end of the presentations ************************************************************************************************************ FOR THE QUESTIONS 10 questions which must include all aspects of your research (Causative agents, signs and symptoms, pathogenesis, virulence factors, transmission, epidemiology, cutlure and diagnosis and prevention and treatment) Please put well thought out questions and according to your research and has level of sophistication. You will not get credit for questions that are not well thought out (for example, the question below) 1) what is E.coli? a) bacteria b) virus c) all of the above d) none of the above Eventhough above question might be your causative agent. But the fact is , this question is not well thought out and looks like a filler to your research. Focus only on the aspects of research. (and please no questions about what kind of gram staining is your causative agent–) You can remake that question into 1) What is the causative agent for ulcer? a ) Helicobacter pylori b) E.coli c) S. aureus d) P. aeuroginosa One last note: Please do not put questions in epidemiology that involves numbers like 6 million population or 237,000 people or any statistics. You can use number related answers in the context of presentation (for example, you can ask how many kinds of hepatitis are there? 5–or something along those lines–these are important things to know so it can be used in the question).
